Manipulating Shade
Some diseases are suppressed by shade, whereas others increase in importance under shade. Manipulation of shade should be considered as a possible component of disease management systems.
The dense shade produced by the cassava canopy prevents weed growth after about 90 days so the crop can continue to prosper without loss of production due to weed competition.
